I have been hearing about Autism for years but never thought it would hit my family until after I decided as the festival director for COMMFFEST Community fim festival to screen two films about it. TWO WORLDS ONE PLANET and AUTISM NADE IN AMERICA. After speaking to my mother about the screenings, she alerted me to the fact that I have a cousin in England whose 4yr old son has autism. I quickly called her. She mentioned that not only does her son have it but my other cousin also living in England has two sons one 17 yrs old and another 9 years old both autistic. What a revelation. and how odd thatI would find this out after I decided to screen these two films.

These films give excellent insight into the challenges families and educators face when dealing with autistic individuals. I love the positivity of "Two Worlds-One Planet!"

I was encouraged recently to learn that a hospital here in Boston just received $29 million for adult autism research. Here's a link to the story: http://www.boston.com/news/health/articles/2009/08/23/mgh_to_target_adult_autism/
